Traveler Experiences

What was your favorite meal or restaurant in Italy?

It’s so hard to pick just one favorite place or one meal. There's no competition between Italian food and cuisine being served in the USA compared to Italian food served in Italy. From breakfast to lunch and dinner, I had many to die for meals including my absolute favorite — homecooked lasagna by Antonietta. The taste was so different than any other lasagna I’ve eaten before. Her passion for cooking and serving us was savored in every bite. Not sure I could ever find another hearty lasagna dish as good as hers!

In Rome, that would be Le Mani in Pasta. It has a great atmosphere and the food is incredible. The chef is great and very personable. In Florence, we loved Cibrèo Trattoria which was recommended by our Florence tour guide, Silvia. They had great service and the food was pure Tuscan.

EATALY!!! I realize it looks like a giant mall, but I found the experience to be so informative and delicious. Word of caution — don't buy a huge jar of olive oil there and then head to the Coliseum! No liquids are allowed inside the Coliseum or the Roman Forum. Security is tight, too.

Naples "Anitca Pizzeria I Decumani". Excellent quality pizza and beer. The overall feel of the restaurant exudes the Italian tradition!

My favorite meal was from "Trattoria La Casalinga" in Florence. This meal was extra special being my 23rd birthday luncheon but also due to the exceptional food and service. The rabbit and wild boar was a first for me, however it is a classic for Florentines. The entire meal was unique, fresh, full of flavor, and ended perfectly with a slice of cake and a cappuccino.
